#plantyinfo Poinsettias. How to make the leaves turn red faster
2024-11-04
As the holiday season slowly approaches, the poinsettia is considered the ultimate Christmas ornamental plant! Its bright red leaves (bracts) are what make it so special. To ensure that they turn red in time, follow the tips below:
- Lighting: Light conditions toward the end of the cultivation period are crucial. During November and December, plants should receive full daylight without shading. At night, avoid any artificial light sources – even small corridor lights can interfere with bract coloring.
- Temperature: Maintain a night temperature of 19-20 °C. Avoid higher temperatures, as they can encourage vegetative growth instead of colour development.
- Fertilization: Use the specialized fertilizer Granusol 15-5-25 POINSETTIA MIX or the potassium-rich Granusol 10-10-30 with magnesium and/or calcium to support plant development. Maximum EC: 1.2.
- Plant spacing: Space the plants adequately to prevent botrytis (gray mold) and leaf yellowing.
